About Us

Safe Access is a community-led initiative working at the intersection of health and technology to enable equitable healthcare for the LGBTQ+ community in India.

With the advancement in medicine and technology, healthcare and treatment have become more accessible than ever before. However, this does not hold true for the queer community, especially in developing countries like India. Lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBTQ+) individuals continue to face barriers and challenges to accessing health services and, as a result, experience worse health outcomes. These challenges include but are not limited to stigma, discrimination, and violence.

This was reaffirmed by the findings of our survey taken by the LGBTQ+ community across India. Our findings revealed that:
  • 53% of the LGBTQ+ people are afraid of approaching any kind of healthcare service provider
  • 26% reported having denied health services because of their sexual orientation or gender identity
  • 82% could not think of a single doctor they could trust

Discrimination in health care setting endangers LGBTQ members’ lives through delays or denial of medically necessary care. We are here to change this narrative by providing the community access to affirmative and competent medical services, without the fear of discrimination.

As an LGBTQ+ youth you can use this online platform to:
  • Find compassionate health care service providers around you, who are sensitized and equipped to handle your needs.
  • Get informed about safe sexual, reproductive and mental health practices through meticulously curated content.
  • Rate and review healthcare providers based on several LGBTQ+ specific metrics

Through Safe Access we hope to build a bridge to compassionate healthcare, enabled by access, information and mutual trust.
